Embedded VideoPosted: 04/06/2011
When shorter video clips are embedded into a larger multimedia story. It’s a very common element – almost every story on this blog has at least some embedded video in it. The user must click on the video to play it. If it’s not already full screen, there is usually the option to make it so.
Embedded videos allow different bits of content to be corralled together without making the user seek them out individually. They just have to hit the play button and watch. In the multimedia context, when video can be just one element among many, this “lean-back” aspect of video can give the creator more control over how certain parts of the overall narrative are framed.
Stories differ in their use of embedded video in whether they make it just one part of a larger story like Welcome to Pine Point, or use it as the central driver of the story like A Year at War or Behind the Veil?
